Eyes on Saskatoon's wrongful convictions again
Injusticebusters coverage of Dominic McCullock's trial for the murder of Jaime Wheeler begins with posting the news reports we didn't post at the time. We were busy with other things.
We now know that defence lawyer Mark Brayford did not give a vigorous defence of his client: he did not call an expert witness who was prepared to testify and he did not submit the autopsy report. In fact he conducted the sort of defence one would expect from a lawyer who does not believe in his client's innocence.
Wilf Hathway has now been ordered to stand trial after a preliminary inquiry. His defence lawyer, Robert Borden, has quit, claiming he can no longer work with Richard Klassen and Angela Geworsky, the two members of injusticebusters' team who first persuaded him to take the case and did the legwork establishing his solid Not Guilty plea. more . . . (resignation story at bottom of page)
And the David Milgaard Inquiry has resumed again, with a journalist who had information in 1983 on the stand . . .more.
Saskatoon is effectively without a police chief. Russell Sabo has been keeping such a low profile one could think he was hiding as his contract comes up for renewal. He has access to all the information which could clear Hathway right now and undo the wrong which has been done to Dominic McCulloch but instead he is allowing the Saskatoon Police Service to continue with its old tricks of covering up its mistakes. . . . more.
